September 9: The Washington Times reported that Pakistan’s top diplomat in Washington said in an interview that his country will remain a key partner in the U.S. counterterrorism campaign in the wake of the fall of the U.S.-backed government in Kabul, sharing a common goal of preventing a Taliban-ruled Afghanistan from once again becoming a pariah state and a safe harbor for terrorist organizations such as al Qaeda and the Islamic State group.
